Other title(s): Three October day in Leiden
-
Year: 1922
-
Description: Reportage about the 3 October celebrations in Leiden. On October 3, 1574, the population of Leiden was liberated from the Spanish besiegers. Led by Louis de Boisot, the seafaring Guezen entered the city, with herring and white bread for the hungry population. To commemorate this 'rescue of Leiden', herring and white bread are still given away in the city every year on October 3. Other activities also take place on that day. The reportage shows e.g. a gondola ride and a carrier-pigeon race. The film ends with an historic parade on the water.
